The Longines Ultra-Chron represents a significant milestone in the history of watchmaking, marking Longines’ continued commitment to technical innovation and precision. Launched in 1967, on the occasion of the brand’s centenary, this watch is distinguished by its high-frequency movement, an advanced technical feature aimed at providing unmatched accuracy at the time.

At the heart of the Ultra-Chron lies a revolutionary movement, the Longines caliber 431 certified chronometer, operating at 36,000 vibrations per hour. This frequency, considerably higher than the 19,800, 21,600, and sometimes 28,800 A/h of the time, significantly reduced the effects of external disturbances on the watch’s accuracy, thus offering increased precision even under various usage conditions. The Ultra-Chron movement was so precise that Longines guaranteed it a precision of ± 5 seconds/day, a feat at the time of its release.

Our example is presented in excellent aesthetic and mechanical condition. The case retains very sharp angles, the characteristic Ultra-Chron medallion on the gold case back is deep, crisp, and retains its sandblasted appearance, and the original brown “confetti” crosshair dial is flawless. Having been fully serviced by one of our watchmakers specializing in vintage models, the chronometric performance of this watch is excellent. During this service, the plexiglass crystal and the leather strap were also replaced with new ones.

We also had the pleasure of receiving confirmation of the production of this watch in 1969, as evidenced by the information provided by the Heritage Department of the Longines Watch Company Francillon SA, based on the serial numbers 15’566’xxx (case) and 50’322’xxx (movement) that we provided.
