Description & history
Superb Rolex Oyster Perpetual reference 1005 crafted in steel and 18-carat yellow gold, accompanied by an impressive ‘set’ of original documents: Rolex warranty, COSC Chronometry Bulletin, and even the original purchase invoice from May 1968 in Buenos Aires, Argentina!
Featuring an exquisite dial, self-winding movement, and a two-tone Oyster bracelet, this model is rare and currently very much in style. Fully serviced by one of our expert watchmakers, this Oyster Perpetual, with its 34 mm diameter, is ideally suited for both men with medium-sized wrists and women.
Manufactured in 1966, this exceptional Rolex showcases a steel and gold Oyster case, a fluted yellow gold bezel, a stunning two-tone riveted bracelet, and is driven by the acclaimed and dependable Rolex calibre 1570, also utilized in the brand’s professional models.
Its cream-colored dial boasts a subtle horizontal brushed texture, a rare trait for Rolex dials, along with tritium luminescent hour markers that have developed a gorgeous patina. The straight-tipped gold hands were originally filled with luminescent material as well.
What truly transforms this timepiece into a coveted collector’s item is its complete set of documents. The owners preserved not only the original ‘punched’ guarantee in Spanish but also the Chronometry Bulletin from the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC), ‘punched’ too and dated December 1966, and even the original purchase invoice, documenting a sale on 17 May 1968 at Bellisomi Joyeros, an official Rolex retailer in Buenos Aires, Argentina!
In summary, this automatic Rolex with its clean lines and genuine vintage appeal, highlighted by the elegant combination of gold and steel, will appeal to both the enthusiast who wishes to wear it daily and the collector who is captivated by the rich history and documentation still accompanying it, nearly 60 years after its creation.
Product details
The stainless steel case is excellently preserved, with sharp delineations between the satin and mirror-polished surfaces.
The original case back, marked III.66 to indicate its production in the third quarter of 1966, remains in very good condition and is original to the watch.
The fluted yellow gold bezel, which has been polished previously, still retains its sharp edges, adding a unique charm to the watch.
The engravings of the reference and serial numbers are impeccably clear.
The beautiful cream-colored textured dial is original, unrestored, and well-preserved, while the luminescent material (tritium-based) on the hour markers and hands has developed a captivating patina.
The exceptionally rare Rolex Oyster bracelet, featuring riveted links in yellow gold and steel, reference 7205 with lugs 61, is in very good condition for its age and exhibits minimal stretch.
The mechanical self-winding movement, Rolex calibre 1570, has been thoroughly overhauled by one of our watchmakers who specializes in vintage Rolex movements. It operates within the strictest tolerances, delivering excellent performance as confirmed by professional timegrapher readings.
Warranty
All the watches available in our showroom have been meticulously inspected by our partner teams, consisting of experts, to ensure their authenticity and originality.
A check of the mechanical functioning and accuracy is systematically carried out on all products, and a complete overhaul is performed if necessary.
Unlike some resellers, we do not simply sell watches “as is.” Cases, bezels, metal bracelets, and other aesthetic parts are cleaned and, when we deem it desirable, polished while respecting their original appearance as much as possible.
An impeccable service to guarantee our customers watches in perfect condition that will accompany them daily.
